Welcome to our brand new knowledge centre. This is where all our expertise and experience in bulk logistics comes together.
At the Van den Bosch Academy, our drivers and transport partners are trained to become Van den Bosch ambassadors. Our office-based colleagues, the Technical Department and even our customers enrich their knowledge here and are trained to become Supply Chain Experts. But importantly, we don’t just teach theory at the Academy. The emphasis is on putting ideas into practice – all in an inspiring environment.

Anyone who wants to get better, progresses every single day. It is in our DNA to stimulate our employees’ personal development, because they are the people who make Van den Bosch to who we are: The Supply Changer in Bulk.
Living up to this promise doesn’t happen on its own – and that’s the reason why the Academy was founded. It helps us to make progress, every day. With a particular focus on the paramount importance of safety and quality, the Academy and our trainers ensure that we’re always able to perform at the highest level. Now and in the future.
Theory and practice come together at the Academy. We designed this knowledge centre specifically to take training, hands-on experience and development to a higher level. To really let you become part of our bulk logistics world.
At the Academy we make you a part of our bulk logistics world. Here we link theory to practice, and experience to doing. We share more than just knowledge, we really make you part of our world.
Van den Bosch’s world is big and you’ll find our people everywhere. The jobs they do are very diverse and they have a lot of stories to tell. We invited some of our colleagues to experience the Academy for themselves and to talk about learning and development. Find out what they believe and what drives them in their day-to-day work.
Loekie van Dam
Team leader Customer Service Loekie participated in the onboarding programme, which gave her a flying start at Van den Bosch.
'Excellent preparation for the job'
Would Loekie van Dam have got off to such a flying start without the onboarding programme at the Van den Bosch Academy? Our team leader Customer Service colleague is clear on this. "Absolutely not. This comprehensive introductory programme taught me a lot about my new job and about the company. For me, this was the perfect introduction."
Loekie joined in January 2021. But before taking the plunge into her work, she first followed the onboarding programme for two weeks. "I have no background in transport, so I had no clear idea of what goes on in a company like Van den Bosch. The programme helped me a lot with that. I got to know the company, found out about the various functions and how they relate to each other."
"I felt appreciated even before I started"
Mutual understanding
Loekie was of course prepared for her own specific position, but the insight into the work of others also provided a lot of understanding. "For example, I was surprised how many responsibilities a driver actually has. The same goes for business controllers, planners, ICT staff, etc. It’s really useful to know what everyone is doing. It lends to mutual understanding, which can only benefit the cooperation."
Growth prospects
Loekie also sees the focus on growth possibilities as a great opportunity. "Colleagues who have worked at Van den Bosch for years explained the steps they had gone through and how they kept their careers challenging. What struck me was that they all talked passionately about the company. That made me very keen to get started in my own position. I was really looking forward to it."
Welcome feeling
"All in all, during onboarding I got a strong 'welcome to Van den Bosch' feeling", says Loekie. "I know why my position is important, and that my work matters. I felt appreciated even before I started. And once I started, a lot of the pieces quickly fell into place. That was fortunate, because it allowed me to focus all my attention on the onboarding process. I can now safely say that I feel perfectly at home."

17 m3 concrete, 262 m2 tiles, 293 m2 theatre fabric, 175 lamps and 15.4 tonnes of construction waste. The realisation of the new Van den Bosch Academy took a huge amount of work. Under the leadership of Facility Manager Tom van Rijt, an empty and obsolete building at Bussele 30 in Erp was transformed in 5.5 months into an experience centre in bulk logistics.

"We worked extremely hard, but the result speaks for itself", says Van Rijt. As project leader, he has been working nonstop in recent months. "It was a big challenge to go from drawing to delivery in 5.5 months, especially as the building required total renovation first. Only then could we actually start on the concept. My compliments go to all the colleagues and suppliers involved. It took a huge collective effort to achieve the concept we envisioned."
"This combination of training, experience and innovation is unique"
World of bulk logistics
In the Academy, Van den Bosch takes colleagues and visitors into the world of bulk logistics. Van Rijt: "In a hall of 500 square metres, every facet comes to life: a walk-in tank container, a silo container, a 4-metre high tower for working at height and a truck cabin, as well as the latest innovations and the products we transport. The centrepiece is a glass theory room, around which the training islands are set up. All the elements are connected to each other via lines on the floor. No detail was forgotten. For example, the bicycle stall in a silo container, and seating made of truck tyres."
More than a training facility
"I am extremely proud of the result", concludes Van Rijt. "The Academy is much more than a training facility. It is a complete journey through the world of bulk logistics: the epitome of who we are and what we stand for. This combination of training, experience and innovation is unique."
Those who develop, are moving forward. That is why we invest in knowledge sharing and training programmes. Because, if you can get the best out of yourself, we can bring out the best in each other.
